Abstract

Psychosomatics is an approach that seeks to understand the relationship between psychological aspects and a person's physical symptoms. It assumes that emotions and thoughts can have an impact on the health of the body and can cause or aggravate illnesses. The psychosomatic approach is often used to treat illnesses such as chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and other conditions that have an unknown origin. Psychosomatic treatment can involve therapeutic interventions that seek to help the person deal with the emotions and thoughts that may be affecting their physical health, promoting a balance between body and mind, as it is based on the hypothesis that there is a lack of knowledge in the academic training of health professionals, in the sense of looking at the individual as a holistic being, that is, in their entirety, as a biopsychosocial being. This work is justified in view of the large number of people who spend a considerable amount of their lives suffering from chronic illnesses, for which there is no medical explanation as to their origin. It aims to understand the relationship between mind and body and how certain unconscious conflicts and unresolved emotional issues can affect our body's organs and systems, as well as to learn about some of the factors that trigger psychosomatic illnesses. To this end, we selected books and scientific articles with relevant information on the subject.
