Abstract

The present article deals with obstetric violence as a violation of human rights and its consequences. Its objective is to understand the reality of obstetric violence and the main consequences of this violation for women. In addition, the article aims to identify consequences of this violence on its victims, especially to women's health and how the law has addressed this issue. As bibliographical methodology, a descriptive exploratory research was carried out, with the use of secondary sources, such as scientific articles, statistics and available legislation. The results obtained showed that obstetric violence affects the right to health, education and gender equality. This occurs because, it hinders access to mental and emotional health, in addition to imposing physical and oral damage to women. Consequently, this has significant consequences for women's health, as they tend to withdraw from health services and the sequences of various other negative events, such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, among others. In addition, it is highlighted that the role of laws has been ineffective to provide security to women who suffer from obstetric violence. Therefore, the article identified that obstetric violence is currently a violation of women's human rights. It interferes with the right to health, education and gender equality of the victims in this conflict, bringing consequences whose result is a decrease in their quality of life. Moreover, the article highlights that the legislation is still ineffective to provide security to women who suffer from obstetric violence.
