This research work aims to analyze the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of the institutions and bodies responsible for preventing domestic and family violence against women, focusing on public policies to protect women and the effectiveness of the measures adopted, identifying the main challenges and obstacles faced for prevention measures to be effective. Thus, two domestic violence prevention measures were analyzed, the Women's Police Station and the Women's Reference and Care Centers, in order to study the main differences of these prevention measures, since only one is efficient. In Brazil, domestic violence against women is a serious and recurrent issue, and although the Maria da Penha Law was enacted in 2006, establishing measures to protect women victims of violence, there are still many challenges to ensure the effectiveness of these measures, the which is proven by the alarming numbers of domestic violence records. It is a study in the legal literature, which will have as its main base the Law 11.340 of 2006, scientific articles, books, and scientific magazines, being, therefore, qualitative research. In view of this, the research is expected to provide points on the main barriers faced by women in accessing support and protection services, and thus contribute to the development of more effective strategies to combat gender violence.
