THE SEXUALITY OF WOMEN IN THE ELDERLY AGE

Abstract

Sexuality among the elderly is still rooted in taboos, myths and stereotypes, the idea and the conception that active sex only needs to be practiced between young people and adults is still ingrained in society, that the elderly are asexual people, without the need for express your sexuality. The aim of this study is to discuss women's sexuality in old age, to understand the challenges and possibilities of this period of life. The theoretical and methodological foundations of the research will be carried out through a review of updated scientific literature, using the databases: Medical publications (PubMed), Google Scholar, Scielo and Medline. Current articles published in the years 2017 to 2022 were used, searched in the databases with the following descriptors: Sexuality, Sexuality in old age, Aging. After the analysis, it was concluded that the sex and sexuality of women in old age is a subject of great relevance and impact, however, society in general has little knowledge about it, as well as its importance in the quality of life of these elderly people.
