GENDER AND PSYCHOLOGY: THE VIOLENCE AGAINST TRANSGENDER WOMAN AND TRANSVESTITES IN BRAZIL

The present work is qualitative in nature, since it is based on bibliographic studies already presented to the academic community. Its main objective is to approach transsexual women and transvestites in Brazil. In an objective and non-pathologizing way, it seeks to lead the reader to approach and to have an inclination to reflect about: gender identity, violence towards transsexual women and transvestites in Brazil, and the role of psychology in the social commitment with trans people. In this way, it can contribute to the academic community by highlighting the importance of reflecting on issues that focus on the perception of being and expressing oneself in the world. This article is divided into four sections: Brief report regarding the studies on sex and gender; Transgender people; Violence against transsexual women and transvestites in Brazil; Role of psychology in the social commitment with trans people and transvestites.
