: LSD, also known as lysergic acid diethylamide, is an alkaloid that occurs from the metabolic reactions of the fungus Claviceps purpurea. It is a psychedelic substance with sedative properties. This research aims to review articles that investigate the possibility of using the sedative effect of LSD, mainly in small doses, in the treatment of depression and generalized anxiety disorder. LSD is a promising candidate, being a substance of low toxicity and easy to obtain. Studies in vitro and in vivo demonstrate good response to psychedelic substances regarding the reduction of depressive and anxiety symptoms, however, it must be taken into account that there is no definitive conclusion, as research is still progressing.
