Polytrauma is characterized by multiple injuries caused to the body by external forces, whether physical or chemical (impacts or burns). Among them we can mention falls, traffic accidents, pedestrians, gunshot wounds, among others. With this, this study aimed to review the literature on the importance of the role of nursing for polytrauma patients. A systematic literature review of a basic, qualitative nature was carried out using the method of content analysis already prepared through the Nursing Database, Scielo, LILACS, collects SUS, MEDLINE and CUMED. 22 articles that best suited the theme were selected. The literature highlights technical-scientific knowledge and the search for professional qualification for nurses. This study made it possible to identify the importance of nurses and their team in assisting polytraumatized patients. its competences go beyond technical-scientific-assistance, involving aspects of humanization, personal relationships and Interprofessionality, factors that will contribute to qualified assistance. It is up to the nurse to carry out educational actions for the entire population and to coordinate their team, with the aim of reducing trauma and sequelae.
