There is a common sense perception in part of Brazilian society that presents an image structure of the police and their respective security forces as violent, apart from the principles of human rights, disrespectful to constitutional principles. An image that is popularized in the press, on social networks, in the various discourses of socialization agencies and that affects, to a large extent, the formation of the social representation of these organizations that have, in their work mission and social commitment, the defense of the population itself . This article, based on classic and contemporary bibliographical references, seeks to weave this situational reality, investigating the communication systems between this State body and the population. The methodology used is qualitative, based on studies and reflections of research and references by authors who deal with the subject, aiming to present a scenario that opposes - what is guided in the press with the situational reality experienced by police professionals.
