Abstract

Why study Machiavelli? Certainly, Machiavelli contributed significantly to Western thought, effectively developing his political theory in addition to the principles of war and diplomacy. In this way, there are good reasons to include Machiavelli among the greatest political philosophers of his time. Despite the temptation to emphasize his political pragmatism, a lively academic debate ensues about the presence of a coherent and original philosophy, addressing topics of concern to philosophers, at the heart of his thinking.
