Abstract

Sun exposure has a number of benefits, both physical and psychological, in addition to being the main source of vitamin D, important in the prevention of various diseases. However, exposure to ultraviolet rays is also an important carcinogenic trigger. Faced with this impasse of sun exposure being beneficial or not to the body, a qualitative literature review was carried out using the DOAJ, Virtual Health Library (BVS) and National Library of Medicine (PubMed) databases, using original articles published between the years 2015 to 2023, finding a total of 400 articles. After inclusion and exclusion criteria, 24 articles were quoted for the result, which were mostly in favor of sun exposure when it came to its risks and benefits, thinking about the administration of vitamin D, in return, 3 articles advised the supplementation of vitamin D more resistant than exposure to ultraviolet rays, due to the association with increased risk of skin cancer. Among the impasses to bring unanimous studies are numerous variables when exposing yourself to the sun. There are also a series of studies that recommended the supplementation of 25(OH)D, a hormonal precursor of vitamin D, but did not show good results regarding the reduction of malignancies arising from vitamin D concentrations, as they did not find an ideal dose. Further prospective studies with larger samples are recommended for approval of the guidelines, in order to avoid a higher incidence of cases with low levels of 25(OH)D.
