Abstract

The inclusion of Oral Health Teams in the Family Health Program took place in 2000, when the Ministry of Health determined the financial incentive for its implementation. As a recent process, this work aims to emphasize the work process of the dental surgeon in the family health program and its challenges. Methodology: Literature review. Databases were used: Google academic, SciELO and LiLacs. Works between the years 2013 and 2022 were selected. Results and discussion: The literature analyzed to compose the review points out that the inclusion of the Dental Surgeon in the field of the Family Health Strategy brought, in addition to new work perspectives, the need for adequacy of the profile of these professionals with regard to responsibilities within the Family Health team. It is already clear that this discussion, although late, is being implemented, as well as the change in the care model is taking place, with the agreement of a training process consistent with this new model. Once this barrier has been overcome, the biggest challenge is currently the organization of repressed demands, making curative procedures still predominant. Conclusion: The presence of multidisciplinary teams with the integration of Dental Surgeons is essential for the integral health of individuals, and the trained professional must take responsibility for the search for his or her proper space, with the initiative to improve and thus consolidate their performance within Primary Care the health. In parallel, new research must be carried out, so that in addition to the professionals' conduct being integrated and based on up-to-date scientific studies, the work processes focus on the assisted population, which has peculiarities and different needs in each micro-region, distancing itself from activities plastered.
