The objective of this study is a critical analysis, aiming to understand the risks to which professionals working in the area of prison security are exposed, as well as to relate the main causes of mental disorders with the possible factors that contribute to the development and worsening of diseases. I have observed that mental disorders are more relevant than the police report: depression, anxiety disorders and burnout syndrome. Among the related factors, we can highlight the long working hours and the pressure suffered by these agents by security institutions and by society. Finally, it concluded on the importance of strategies for the inclusion of the debate related to mental health, so that agents start in the police career, promoting psychological follow-up for the prevention and treatment of mental disorders to which criminal police officers are exposed.
