POTENTIAL OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A POPULATION IN THE INTERIOR OF THE STATE OF MATO GROSSO

COVID-19 is a fatal disease, caused by the SARS-CoV2 virus, which emerged in 2019 and caused a pandemic. This study aimed to assess the knowledge of a population about the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a descriptive and quantitative study, carried out through a questionnaire prepared by the authors and applied to 117 passers-by in the northern region of Mato Grosso. Data were analyzed in percentage. The results showed that 95% know that the microorganism that causes the disease is a virus, 42% were correct regarding the name COVID-19, the main symptoms obtained 87% of correct answers and the country of origin of the virus had 92% of responses. 90% indicated that COVID-19 is treatable, 43% say it has no cure. 60% indicated that the disease could be transmitted by animals, of which 30% said it was the bat. Use of soap and water obtained 60% of responses, 42% reported seeking basic health units and 60% complied with social isolation. Only 62% considered wearing a mask, 52% described social distancing as an effective form of prevention. 98% used Azithromycin, 94% used dexamethasone and chloroquine, about 85% used ivermectin and 85% reported using any of these medications without a medical prescription. It is concluded, therefore, that the studied population is aware of preventive measures and transmission, however there were unsatisfactory results in self-medication.
