ANALYSIS OF THE POLITICAL SCENARIO FROM THE MUNICIPAL ELECTION OF CUIABÁ/MT IN THE CONTEXT OF THE IMPEACHMENT OF DILMA ROUSSEFF AND ITS DEVELOPMENTS FOR THE ELECTION TO THE GOVERNMENT OF MATO GROSSO

Abstract

This article aims to discuss aspects related to the electoral process held in October 2016 in Cuiabá/MT still in the context of the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff that took place two months earlier. This process culminated in the election of the candidate Emanuel Pinheiro, bringing the PMDB back to the command of the municipal executive after two decades. Our analysis seeks to understand, from the elements studied in this discipline, factors that led to the defeat of the PSDB, as well as the expressive vote achieved by the PSOL and the absence of the PT as the protagonist of the dispute after its decision to support a PDT candidacy. At the end, we present a summary of the municipal elections in Mato Grosso, taking into account the ten largest electoral colleges and a perspective of this result for the electoral dispute for the government in 2018, where Governor Pedro Taques was defeated in the first round, placing third.
