Violence against children and adolescents is configured as an intentional harm committed by individuals who, in a situation of superiority, promote physical, psychological and/or sexual harm to children and adolescents. As it is a serious public health problem worldwide, the present work aims to demonstrate the importance and responsibility of health professionals in acting and reporting in the face of suspected and confirmed cases of this type of violence. An electronic search was carried out in the SCIELO Brazil, LILACS, Medline and FIOCRUZ databases, with the selection of 22 national and international articles published between 2010 and 2022. It was identified that, despite the mandatory notification evidenced by the legislation, there are difficulties and limitations on the part of health professionals to act in this type of violence, resulting from a deficit of approach during academic training, in addition to the scarcity of regulations that establish the technical procedures. Thus, it is concluded that it is extremely important to train health professionals during their academic training, in order to acquire knowledge capable of assisting and solving cases of children and adolescents who are victims of domestic violence.
