PROPHYLACTIC MEASURES FOR THROMBOEMBOLISM AFTER ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY

Venous thromboembolism is a serious condition related to blood clotting inside veins. The aim of this study is to identify which prophylactic measures are used to prevent venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients after orthopedic surgery, using the integrative review as a research method, which aims to synthesize the results that have already been researched. literature in the databases on the VHL and Pubmed platform, in March 2021, VHL with the following Health Science Descriptors: “Prevention and Venous Thromboembolism and Orthopedic Procedures”: 20 articles were selected to answer the objective of the study. The preventive measures found in the results, pharmacological and non-pharmacological, are considered according to the risk profile of each patient and the association of both showed efficacy in preventing the disease. It is concluded that VTE in patients after orthopedic surgery is a common and preventable condition, and drug or mechanical prophylactic measures are highly effective and necessary for prevention.
