The text presents the results of the research conducted by doctoral students enrolled in a Post Graduation Program in a brazilian public university, concerning the orientation process as a pedagogy/didactic and its teaching/learning possibilities. The goal was understanding the orientation/writing process in the postgraduate advisors perspective, stricto sensu in the human and social science areas. The paper was developed during the Seminary for Theory and Practice of the Research, Writing and Orientation in Postgraduate Programs, offered by the Education Postgraduate Program in the second semester of 2017. The study involved seven professors of the Human Sciences and Education postgraduate programs. The research was anchored on the qualitative approach, following two complementary methodological paths: the bibliographic research, advised by the authors who analyse the orientation theme on postgraduate programs under different approaches, and the empirical research, with the analysis of the interviews with advising professors who participated of the study. The obtained results confirm the importance of the advisor through the whole process of training new advisors, as well as the importance of the collective orientation as a socializing and learning environment, integrating the collective and individual research. Finally, it is highlighted that the orientation process materializes the advisor, culminating not only with the elaboration of new knowledge, but also with the formation of a new researcher and future advisor.
