Abstract

Given the above, the study aims to review in the literature the importance of educating the Indigenous population as, a form of weapon to deal with the colonizers. This is a bibliographic review of literature carried out through google academic, through the following keywords: "indigenous population" and "education". Combined with each other by the Boolean AND operator. As inclusion criteria: articles available in full, in Portuguese, Spanish and English, which addressed the theme. As exclusion criteria: articles that did not contemplate the theme and repeated studies in the databases. The variables early childhood education, primary and secondary education and higher education emerged. We can see that the colonizers tried to make it difficult for indigenous peoples to learn in order to impose their culture on them.
