The burn breaks the integrity barrier of the skin, compromising its functions and leaving an entry point for complications. One of the main repercussions in burn patients is sepsis, however, impairment of cardiovascular and renal function and other associations can also occur as a consequence of the injury. The objective of this study was to carry out an epidemiological analysis of the treatment of major burns and discuss its complications. For the present study, an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional collection of data available in the DATASUS database from January 2014 to January 2019 was performed, evaluating the number of hospitalizations, average length of stay and deaths of the following procedure: treatment of large burned. In Brazil, during the period analyzed, there were a total of 28,869 hospitalizations for the treatment of major burns; for the average stay, we have the full value of 12.2 days; and in relation to deaths, we obtain the value of 2,196 occurred. The present study showed high occurrences of burns in Brazil, which are large and require hospitalization. However, there was a poor distribution of CTQs across Brazilian regions, which are mostly concentrated in more developed areas such as the Southeast and South of the country.
