Abstract

This article aims to present a configuration of racism in contemporary Brazil, carrying out a brief analysis on the subject within the concept of mental health, classifying the forms of racism and pointing out what psychic damage it can cause in the life of the black person. In this way, bibliographical research was carried out in order to go through some works related to the theme “Racism and mental health of the black population in Brazil”. Thus, it is intended to offer a more mature view of what racism is, how it configures and causes social inequalities, making the victims psychically ill, and also bringing some points to psychology, which can take this discourse to various areas where they operate mainly in the academic field, in order to seek coping strategies.
