The present study deals with the investigation of the state of the art related to the use of the plant species Passiflora Incarnata and its application in the treatment of anxiety and depression, through a systematic literature review, without meta-analysis. From a search strategy, 155 studies published in the following databases were located within the time frame of 2017 to 2022: Scielo, PubMed, LiLACs, Google Academic and CAPES/MEC Periodicals. After treatment of the data, 09 studies were selected that met all the inclusion criteria. The results allow us to understand that the use of the species for the pathological condition researched is a recurring subject in publications, however, there are not enough studies to define the mechanism of action responsible for the possible pharmacological activity, nor are there publications of pre-clinical or clinical studies developed and/or under development, becoming a bias for further research.
