The present study aims to discuss the role of the Social Worker in front of those welcomed in a Long Stay Home for the Elderly. Bibliographic research in scientific publications from national databases was used as a methodology. It was found that the role of the social worker together with the elderly is exercised from the time the elderly arrive at the institution, through the reception, and later, through the promotion and protection of the social rights that the elderly need, in addition to seeking to strengthen the bonds with the family. There are several positive aspects in the institutionalization of the elderly, as they have access to health, social, leisure and recreational, psychological services, thus having their constitutional rights guaranteed. The role of the social worker in Long-Term Institutions for the Elderly - ILPIs is one of social promotion, as well as guaranteeing the rights of the elderly, becoming a relevant mediator in strengthening the bonds of the elderly with the institution and with their families and the institution itself. community, so that the full citizenship of the elderly, who even institutionalized, has this right. It was concluded that the intervention of the social worker is of great relevance within the ILPI, through an action aimed at achieving the union between social policy, institutional norms and the institutionalized elderly.
