Objective: To trace the disruptive role of nurses and their challenges in primary care consultation with elderly patients. Methodology: A literature review was carried out with the theme of the disruptive role of nurses and their challenges in primary care consultation with elderly patients. To this end, only works published between the years 2010 and 2020 written in Portuguese were included. There are only 10 studies that fit the research. Results: The Primary Health Care Policy for the Elderly, presented as a priority, being the sixth in the three spheres of governments, emerged with the purpose of programming its guidelines and was an important advance aimed at the health needs and demands of the Brazilian elderly population. Their right to health at different levels of care in the Unified Health System (SUS) was reaffirmed, as was the promotion of healthy aging, improving life habits, guiding them and their families. Conclusion: Assistance directed to this population is still very incipient. What concerns the need to expand knowledge regarding the peculiarities relevant to the elderly in our country, after all, aging is a reality in addition to being a public health issue.
