This article aims to understand the devaluation of national literature, since many of today's young people prefer to read books by foreign authors when thinking that national authors do not denote the ability to write good stories. This article was written based on the interpretation of Mário de Andrade's present criticism in his work Macunaíma, from which the topic addressed was taken, followed by research on websites and online books that provide material on this subject. The result was to have a vision of how national literature was and is being devalued.
