SCHOOL EDUCATIONAL HORTA: EXPERIENCE IN THE MUNICIPALITY FROM SÃO JOÃO EVANGELISTA - MG

The objective of this work was to develop a teaching garden involving the curricular components of the areas of natural sciences and mathematics, to portray, analyze and work on environmental education as a way of promoting sustainable development for students and other members of the school community, in addition to favoring the development of family farming in the region, making it possible to disseminate cultivation techniques suitable for horticultural activities and to increase supplementary income for their respective families. The work was developed as an environmental education project at the State School Doutor Lúcio Vieira da Silva, Comercinho district, Municipality of São João Evangelista - MG, where the construction of the vegetable garden was used as an instrument to enable an interdisciplinary study involving the areas of nature and mathematics and favor learning related to current social demands, as well as meeting the recommendations of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). In this context, seeking to meet needs previously listed by the school community (managers, teachers, students and their families), environmental education was worked on with themes related to soil conservation and management, cultivation of vegetable food. The activities developed in this study showed that the use of educational gardens is a practical and opportune method of stimulating interdisciplinarity and multiprofessionalism, providing positive experiences regarding school and community interaction, allowing the student to experience the application of knowledge acquired in the solution of problems of the everyday life, in addition to contributing to the formation of ethical, humanistic, critical and aware individuals of their role as citizens.
