Poly-lactic acid is a synthetic polymer of lactic acid, known as a collagen biostimulator. Produced by streptococcus bacteria through the fermentation of corn dextrose, it is used for the treatment of flaccidity, restoring facial volume by promoting neocollagenesis. The human body spontaneously produces collagen, however, according to age and lifestyle variables, encompassing biopsychosocial aspects, its production decreases, so the biostimulator will activate collagen production. The objective of this paper was to search the scientific literature to aggregate and synthesize the knowledge produced about the relationship between poly-lactic acid filling and facial aging in mature skin. A qualitative methodology has been carried out, with regard to the descriptive study. The search was carried out in SciELO, Scopus, Web of Science and Pubmed databases. Findings showed that the use of poly-lactic acid in the facial region in mature skin is of great value due to its action as a biostimulator of collagen, stimulating the friblasts to reach the expected aesthetic result.
