Introduction: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a medical condition due to excessive proliferation of glandular epithelial and stromal cells, is common in elderly men. Materials and Methods: An interactive review, which addressed the theme “Benign prostatic hyperplasia and its complications”, selecting 9 articles, the Scielo databases, VHL, in Portuguese published between 2017 and 2022. Result: 2 graphs were made, with the ages more affected and the most apparent signs. Objective: to analyze the common signs and symptoms, and how to avoid and recognize and thus treat as soon as possible. Conclusion: The bibliographical review in this study brings important information about benign prostatic hyperplasia and, as its name already says, it is not a cancer, but it must have its due attention and care.
