In aesthetic dentistry, the search for the best aspect of the smile is one of the great demands within the offices, the need to mask darkened teeth, through the use of direct restorations, has been presented as an efficient technique option in the search for a harmonic smile. Direct restorations provide aesthetics, in a simple, low cost and functional way, compared to indirect techniques. The objective of this work is to demonstrate, through a narrative literature review, the advantages and disadvantages, as well as the indications and contraindications, of the use of direct restoration in discolored teeth. The present study is justified by the opportunity to search and share theoretical and scientific knowledge, demonstrating, therefore, that the use of composite resins in discolored teeth brings satisfactory results. To carry out this literature review, more than 10 scientific articles on the subject of Direct veneers in discolored teeth will be used as a scientific basis, found on online platforms such as Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library On-line) and Google Scholars, published in the period between 2005 and 2022.
