Canine distemper is a seriously contagious infectious disease with unspecific traces and signs. Its evolution depends on the immune elements of each patient, which can lead to death. In this context, the treatment needs to be in accordance with the presented diagnosis. Thus, this work aimed to carry out a bibliographic review focused on canine distemper, with the aim of prescribing the fundamental aspects with analysis of the cause and symptom of the disease. Therefore, it is concluded that this viral and infectious pathology needs to be treated with great care, since it can cause death or compromise the dog's activities for the rest of his life, which requires professional evaluation. To this end, the veterinarian plays a fundamental role in outlining the diagnosis of the disease, always seeking guidance on the relevance of the vaccine.
