Asepsis is characterized by the set of measures used to prevent the penetration of microorganisms into an environment that does not have them, so an aseptic environment is one that is free from infections. Antisepsis is characterized by the set of measures proposed to inhibit the growth of microorganisms or remove them from some environment, which may or may not destroy them, and for this purpose we use antiseptics or disinfectants. The objective of this work is to carry out a literature review about the asepsis and antisepsis techniques performed in oral surgery. The study consists of a literature review in the SciELO, Virtual Health Library and Pubmed/Medline databases, using the descriptors "asepsis", "antisepsis" and "dental surgery". It was identified that preoperative disinfection minimizes the number of resident microflora. Allowing better control of microbial proliferation in these areas during the trans and postoperative period. In addition to reducing occupational risks to professionals. In view of the above, we can conclude that the dentist must always follow the asepsis and antisepsis protocols, in order to avoid possible contamination of themselves and their patients.
