CONSEQUENCES ARISING FROM THE MISUSE OF NASAL DECONGESTANTS

Abstract

Understand the severity and risks of self-medication intoxication, understand drug-related rhinitis resulting from the constant use of decongestants, adverse effects combined with the incorrect use of nasal decongestants. This study refers to a literature review developed through a search of scientific articles that were found in databases with Google Scholar and LILACS, published between 2012-2022 and written in Portuguese. Nasal decongestants can present risks from different factors and situations even though they are an over-the-counter medication. It is understood that for the use of nasal decongestants it is necessary to follow the correct dosage of the drug, with professional guidance in order to avoid adverse events.
