Abstract

Whereas eletronic vehicles are the main means of disseminating information in bulk it is assumed that they are responsible for transmitting misinformation about mental disorders, mainly through movies, documentaries, videos on youtube, creating a collective imaginary about such disorders. By focusing on psychopathy one has the conception that these people are serial killers or commit heinous crimes when in fact it is more recurrent than one imagines and in most cases no such violent trait is observed. Therefore, the objective is to demystify psychopathy, characterizing its aspects, collecting data about what the population understands about this condition and comparing them with the data provided by the media. To achieve this goal, a bibliographic and descriptive research was adopted and a questionnaire will be applied. Thus, it is assumed that the media influences the view on psychopathy through the dissemination of sensationalist information.
