Music produces several beneficial effects in the sporting context, for example: it increases attention span, improves mood and physical performance. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of music on the performance of bodybuilders in the gym. This is a bibliographic review based on articles, monographs, books and individual research, it was developed from articles related to the Capes Portal, such as PubMed, Bireme, Scielo, Google Scholar, among others, national and international, which were of fundamental importance for the understanding and construction of the present work. As a result, music in gyms contributes positively when listened to during exercises, as people feel stimulated by the psychological scenario created by music, and therefore manage to increase the ability to perform exercises when compared to those subjects who train without listening to music. Regarding musical taste, it can be observed that the performance is higher when it is a favorite song and when it is not pleasant, the performance decreases. Therefore, it is concluded that music has a fundamental role for practitioners of physical exercises in the gym and it is directly related to increased motivation, reducing the perception of pain and contributing to the improvement of performance.
