This article sought to discuss the relevance of the Public Defender's Office as a permanent institution essential to the Democratic Rule of Law. In a country with continental geographical proportions like Brazil, the work of strengthening the Public Defender's Office is becoming increasingly relevant to reduce the distance between the needy population and justice. Thus, the purpose of this article is to conduct a study in legal doctrine about the importance of the Public Defender's Office for a Democratic State of Law. To make the study feasible, bibliographic research with a qualitative approach was used as methodology, using scientific productions such as magazines, books and articles published with reference to the subject under study.
