The objective of this work is to point out through the literature the relationship between diet and cancer prevention. Cancer develops when normal processes for controlling cellular behavior fail and a mutated cell becomes the progenitor of a group of cells that share its abnormal behaviors or capabilities. This is usually a result of genetic damage accumulating in cells over time. In Brazil, excluding non-melanoma skin tumors, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in all regions, with higher rates in the South and Southeast regions. Cancer has a direct impact on the nutritional status of individuals, due to the presence of many associated factors that favor malnutrition. The relationship between healthy eating and oncological diseases is not only present in cancer prevention, but also in support during its treatment. The performance of physical activities is classified as the first causality that can be prevented. Food and nutritional inadequacy is classified as the second causality that can be prevented, since foods have the ability to interfere in stimulating development or protecting against tumors. This work had as methodology a descriptive and qualitative bibliographic approach on cancer prevention through food through a critical analysis of the literature. It was concluded then that there are few scientific articles for dietary patterns to contribute to the health prevention process.
