NURSING PERFORMANCE IN THE SAFE SURGERY CHECKLIST

Abstract

Introduction: The safe surgery checklist is a procedure that takes steps to reduce the complications and mortality associated with surgery, which occur before, during or after the operation. Objectives: Show nursing professionals the importance of the safe surgery checklist in the operating room, determine its effectiveness, in addition to ensuring patient safety and the quality of care provided. Materials and Methods: A literature review was carried out and qualitative analysis methods were used. Initially, 19 were pre-selected and, after reading the articles, 10 studies were selected. Results: Of the 10 studies analyzed, 80% of health professionals knew or had heard about the safe surgery checklist and 20% did not. As for training to work in a surgical center, 40% said they had been trained in the safe surgery checklist, while 60% said they had no training. Regarding the applicability of the safe surgery checklist, 80% of the professionals stated that they applied the checklist, while 20% of these professionals did not. Conclusion: The study was able to introduce theoretical concepts about checklists to nursing professionals, demonstrating the effectiveness of using this protocol.
