This work aims to make evident the consequences of smoking related to periodontal diseases. Periodontal disease is defined as a disease that affects both supporting tissues and protective tissues, the supporting tissues consist of cementum, alveolar bone and periodontal ligament, while the protective tissues have the gingiva as its main component. Based on literature reviews, it was found the problems of succeeding in periodontal treatments in smokers because there are some modifying factors, and among them one of the main ones is smoking, since it is in it that we find the highest depth indexes. probing, loss of clinical attachment, greater number of deep pockets, gingival recession and loss of alveolar bone, which may even affect the loss of the dental element.
