The scientific literature indicates that type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is the most common form of diabetes and is currently considered a systemic disorder. It differs from type 1 diabetes in that individuals with type 2 diabetes produce insulin, but the body can create tissue resistance to it. Additionally, studies in the area demonstrate that the dentist should be aware of the signs of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus because of the consequences on oral health such as difficulty in healing and physiological changes that reduce the immune capacity and increase the likelihood of infections that can cause both pulp and periapical tissue changes. In this study, systematic review articles were selected in order to reinforce the importance that the dentist should give to patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, which may reflect on the results of endodontic treatment, where one must be attentive to the signs that the patient presents. . The results revealed the importance of carrying out more studies regarding not only the success of endodontic treatment in DM2, but also the early differential diagnosis of pulp conditions in patients with DM2, the ideal protocols of endodontic treatment for these patients. The importance of dental professionals in encouraging the prevention of oral diseases is highlighted, with the use of modern endodontic instruments, such as electronically controlled motors and appliances, favoring dental treatment with more efficiency and safety for the patient.
