Abstract

During pregnancy, mothers are more open to health-related information. Several studies have stated that the physiological changes that occur in a woman's body during pregnancy can affect not only oral health, but also systemic disability, if not properly monitored. Dental care during pregnancy still faces resistance from both pregnant women and, sometimes, dentists. This study aimed to discuss the importance of dental prenatal care and demystify the clinical care and procedures that can be performed during this period, based on current scientific evidence. The literature search was performed by obtaining articles from the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Online Medical Literature Analysis and Access System (MEDLINE) platforms.
