Keratocystic Odontogenic Tumor is an aggressive lesion of the jaws, which is most often diagnosed in the second and third decade of life, usually affecting the posterior region of the mandible, and an unerupted tooth may or may not be involved. Thus, this paper aims to extract from the literature the main information pertinent to the surgical techniques for the treatment of keratocyst odontogenic tumor, in order to approach the main most effective techniques for this lesion. In order to achieve the proposed objectives, bibliographic research about the theme was carried out, selecting scientific articles indexed in databases. Studies describe that the treatment of choice is the surgical techniques of enucleation, marsupialization and decompression. They also describe that aggressive treatment will include peripheral ostectomy, chemical curettage with Carnoy's solution, cryotherapy, or segmental or peripheral resection. According to the literature review described, it is concluded that the keratocyst odontogenic tumor is an asymptomatic lesion, with high recurrence rates. Given this situation, treatment should be performed with a careful anamnesis followed by laboratory tests to obtain a satisfactory prognosis.
