COMPLICATIONS DURING TOOTH EXTRACTIONS INVOLVING THE MAXILLARY SINUS: LITERATURE REVIEW

Surgery in dentistry is a branch with many adept professionals. With this, complications also arise during extractions, including those involving the maxillary sinus. The objective of this study is to review the literature on complications during tooth extractions involving the maxillary sinus, identify the lesions and understand the necessary care in order to avoid accidents.A literature review was carried out in the Virtual Health Library (BVS), Scielo, Google Scholar and PubMed databases, using the keywords “Oral Surgery”; "Dentistry"; “Maxillary Sinus”. Eleven publications were selected that discussed the chosen theme following the relevant selection criteria, namely: publication date and articles that address in the title, abstract or full article. After the literature review, it was found that changes such as infections, fractures, coronary or radicular, as well as hemorrhages, edema, trans and postoperative pain and injuries involving the maxillary sinus, oroantral communication (BSC), can occur during tooth extractions. Therefore, prevention, a good anamnesis, radiographs, whether periapical or panoramic, are essential for good surgical planning. surgical procedure in order to avoid complications in surgical procedures involving the maxillary sinus, as well as, to avoid any iatrogeny in a noble structure beyond the maxillary sinus.
