ADHERENCE TO THE PATIENT IDENTIFICATION PROTOCOL

Objective: to investigate compliance with the measures regarding the patient's secure identification protocol. Method: descriptive, exploratory research, with a quantitative approach. A questionnaire about the patient's secure identification protocol was used for data collection, including all patients hospitalized in a Medical Clinic and Intensive Care Unit. Results: 52.9% (n=18) of the investigated patients were from the female, aged over 50 years (41.1%; n=14), undergoing clinical treatment (67.6%; n=23, 82.3% (n=28) of patients did not know about the importance of wristband, and 50% (n=17) of the drugs in infusion were not identified, with at least two patient identifiers. Conclusion: the secure identification protocol is not being applied in practice, and it is necessary for the health service to carry out training with the health team to improve adherence to the protocol.
