The new Coronavirus pandemic was a landmark of the 21st century. Its high rate of transmission has caused several people to be infected in a short time. This article seeks to portray the reality of the state of Rio de Janeiro in a comparison with the municipality of Vassouras-RJ about the pandemic of the new Coronavirus, compiling epidemiological information and data, in order to draw a comparison between the two regions. Mainly used were the digital statistical platforms provided by the Ministry of Health and the city halls of the cities of the state of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to other scientific databases such as Pubmed and Scielo. The results found show a discrepancy in the lethality rates and in the number of cases according to the regions studied, demonstrating a greater transmissibility in metropolitan and central regions. There was a difference in the distribution of resources to combat the pandemic, which fosters loco-regional disparities. Two variables that proved to be extremely important in increasing the number of cases and the lethality index were the high concentration of people by region and a low concentration of beds per thousand inhabitants. In conclusion, the measures recommended by the Ministry of Health such as hygiene, the use of masks and social isolation are the best tools available as long as there is no specific treatment or until approval of the distribution of vaccines in Brazil.
