Measles is a viral, immunopreventable infection, which after its eradication in Brazilian territory in 2016, resurfaced in border areas due to the migratory flow between Venezuela and Brazil, spreading between regions of the country, including the state of Rio de Janeiro. The present study aimed to analyze epidemiological and immunological data of the population of the state of Rio de Janeiro, obtained through DATASUS - using the Hospital Information System / Unified Health System (SIH / SUS) and Information System of the National Immunization Program (SI-PNI), from 2012 to 2020. Information was collected on the number of hospitalizations, total expenditure, age group and state distribution. Based on the data obtained, the study revealed that the number of hospitalizations increased in the last two years, especially in the population under 05 years of age, being distributed heterogeneously across the state. Furthermore, according to the records, the rate of vaccination coverage, as well as the number of doses applied, are declining. Thus, it was possible to observe that there was an increase in hospitalizations for measles, associated with the decline in immunizations, in the Brazilian territory, a disease previously considered to be eradicated in the Americas. Therefore, more careful epidemiological studies are needed in order to decrease the number of cases and hospitalizations again.
