Leadership is having the ability to direct people, encourage them and influence attitudes that attract excellent results, involve and engage teams to achieve organizational goals. Leadership is of paramount importance in all types of corporations, including those belonging to the public sector, aiming to achieve the best performance of the professional of a governmental institution, it being up to the leader to have broad and deep knowledge of his team members, to have a good relationship interpersonal, knowing how to encourage motivation, and, consequently, achieving excellence in results, for this, it needs to be effective in setting goals and making assertive decisions, generating gains in competitiveness, valuing teamwork, supporting the creation of a healthy and harmonious organizational climate, conducive to human and business development. The present work demonstrates the importance and impacts of leadership in the management of Brazilian public organizations, through bibliographical research.
