The article aims to discuss the resocialization and functioning of the criminal enforcement process in Brazil, based on the work “Estação Carandiru” by Dráuzio Varella. The work carried out sought to analyze the criminal compliance with Brazilian resocialization programs, since it is found that the criminal process does not fulfill the objective of resocializing detainees for life in society after serving the sentence. As main authors was used Varella (1999); Beccaria (1764); and Greco (2006). After conducting the research, it appears that, in Brazil, this process of serving the sentence meets the Law of Penal Execution, not fulfilling its social functions.
