In recent years the world has been facing several environmental problems, including the pollution of rivers, lakes and groundwater due to contamination by pesticides. Brazil is known worldwide as one of the largest consumers of pesticides and through a comparative study with the European Union, the information is more accurate, since amounts of poisonous substances in pesticides from five hundred to eight hundred times greater than in Europe..Many agrochemical ingredients such as pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and nematicides contain toxic active ingredients that often have the potential to contaminate water sources and cause environmental impacts. The study aimed to measure agrochemical contamination in water resources, highlighting the consequences of excessive use of these chemicals. Using a literature review approach, including case research which selected articles containing studies of polluted rivers in various regions of Brazil, warning about the dangers to public health and exposing the environmental consequences of the exaggerated use of these components in water.
