INTRODUCTION: Incidents with oils on public roads can cause traffic accidents with victims associated with damage to the environment and require quick actions by properly prepared teams in order to mitigate the consequences, aiming to take care of the oil derivatives that come out of engines such as the OLUC. OBJECTIVE: Thus, this study becomes important to identify published articles on how oil spills on public roads can impact the environment. METHOD: This is a bibliographic, explanatory, descriptive research involving journals. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The damage to the environment caused by the spillage of the lubricating fluid after use in engines on public roads causes great potentially toxic impacts to the environment and to collective health. CONCLUSION: Current environmental management actions in the areas of oil spills on public roads need to undergo an evident improvement, enabling an increase in quality as a whole.
