The patient identification protocol has the goal and objective of ensuring patient safety by preventing adverse events for both professionals and patients. However, cultural forces, habitus, and day-to-day practice run counter to the protocol, leading to ineffective application. This research analyzed whether in fact the protocol is correctly adhered to. Thus, with the result we have specific information, showing us all a great impact, with the objective of a new look at the importance of the protocol. After a survey of 34 patients who were admitted to both the ward and the Intensive Care Unit, during the evaluation over a three-month period, all patients who were included in the protocol were included. The criteria evaluated were: if the indicator had more than two indicators, the indicator was legible; the patient knew the reason for the identification bracelet; the medications were identified; the medical records matched the information on the indicator; length of stay. The research shows that among the data collected, 38% of patients correspond to more than one third of the patients interviewed, resulting in a lack of correct adherence to the protocol of safe identification of the patient, with more than 50% of patients being hospitalized for more than 3 days (72 hours).
