Skin cancer is a malignant neoplasm of higher incidence in Brazil. It is divided in Melanoma and Non Melanoma. Skin cancer affects more people with white skin. Non melanoma skin cancer being the most frequent, specifically basal cell carcinoma. The aim of the present study was to analyze the epidemiological prevalence critically and statistically, with the existing information on the cases of skin cancer in the Brazilian registry. The methodology used was the search in the DATASUS database for the Hospital Information System and Hospital Morbidity System, on the epidemiological panorama of skin cancer in the period between January 2009 and December 2019. 2019 was the year with the higher skin cancer index. The Southeast Region was the one that stood out, in several variables, as the region that presented the highest number of hospitalizations, deaths and expenses with skin cancer during the analyzed period. It is concluded that in Brazil, the number of hospitalizations for skin cancer is high, as well as mortality. Therefore, it is important to invest in health promotion, disease prevention, early detection, patient care and surveillance by the Unified Health System (SUS).
